As we approach succession season 3 episode 5 on HBO this weekend, it makes sense to ask a lot of questions about Logan Roy’s health. Just think what happened to him at the end of Episode 4!
One of the things we’ve already learned about Brian Cox’s character on this show is that he considers himself invincible. He will never recognize when something is too much for him; his stubbornness and pride forbid it. This is one of the reasons he breaks down on the walk with Kendall and Josh; he may know somewhere in him that it was too much for him, but he never really refused to acknowledge it. Weakness in his mind is failure.
The idea that Logan could have more health problems going into episode 5 isn’t a surprise, especially since he probably won’t give himself time to recover from the last incident. But judging by the synopsis for this episode (titled “Retired Janitors of Idaho”), his medical event could come at a terrible time:
Kendall and the Waystar team team up at the annual shareholder meeting, where Logan’s health takes a turn.
The fascinating thing about Kendall in this episode is that he has to see how much he needs some members of his family here. Naturally, he tries to evict Logan and take control of Waystar himself; but if the shareholders turn against the family, they are all screwed. Sometimes your worst enemy has to be your best friend to get the job done. This might be what we’re looking at.
